Welcome! I am so happy that you are here 🙂
My name is Alex, the gal behind The Full Shilling, a space filled with adventures, stories and recipes that bring me a little joy to my everyday life here in Ireland.
So a little bit about me…
I’m an explorer at heart and not just in the jet-setting-around-the-world-type sense (although I am fond of a wee bit of globetrotting) but the I-want-to-feast-my-eyes-on-everything-around-me type of wanderer. After having lived in Scotland and Australia for a number of years, I came back to Ireland thirsty for home and promising myself to never take what I have on my doorstep for granted. I mean, where else in the world can you discover ruined castles, white sand beaches or towering mountains in the space of a day?
That’s why I started The Full Shilling back in 2016 because I was itching to share with everyone the reasons why I came home. We have a bounty of stunning destinations here but some are so under the radar that even the locals don’t realise what they have right under their noses!
This island is made up of a diversity of people, stories and landscapes and my personal mission is to share them with you because I firmly believe that making connections to the people and environment around us is the path that will help take us to a life full of contentment.
So what sort of connections can you expect to make through The Full Shilling?
- Connections with landscapes – By sharing my own adventures I hope to focus on lesser known areas that are ripe for exploring on your weekends off when you want to discover somewhere new that is right on your doorstep. Make sure to check out my ‘Local Favourites’ series if this sounds like your cup of tea.
- Connections with people – I love to meet new people particularly those that are brave enough to start their own business or brand so look out for posts looking at local folk who are forging their own path on this corner of the world.
- Connections with food – I try to use seasonal ingredients that are available to us here in Ireland and make that the star of a recipe like this one where I used wild garlic foraged in a local woodland close to home.
- Connections with personal stories – we are all riding this wave together and by sharing my own experiences I hope that I might make others feel less lonely in their own whether it be through grief, terminal illness or mental health.
I have been lucky enough to work with local businesses and brands so if you are interested in working with me, would like to collaborate on a project or would just like to chat then please feel free to get in touch via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you so much for reading!
